The KELI DOWRY

I am excited to announce the forthcoming publication of my second novel, The KELI DOWRY , which will be launched at Le Salon, the National Arts Centre, Ottawa, on the evening of March 31st, 2010. I am so very indebted to my late friend and unique source, (Senator) Philippe Gigantes*, Secretary General to King Constantine at the time of the 1967 Colonels' coup, for his kind 'praise' which will appear on the cover:

The Keli Dowry is a delicious book… I’d give my right ear for your talent. Your characters are so well-drawn. Your descriptions are so evocative… best love scenes I have read… magically tender sensuality. Those who have traveled to Greece should buy it, read it, shut their eyes and they will be transported to the great beaches, the blue seas and the warmth of the sun in the land of Apollo, Diana and Aphrodite. ”

Little in the creative sphere has been written of the brutal period of the Colonels' Junta in Athens (1967-74).

BUT… think GREECE, eternal Greece, and the royal blue, surging Aegean - western cradle, dream destination. The historically sensual and political dynamic of the Aegean begs itself as a backdrop for compelling tales. In a glib sense, life is both a restriction and a freedom; it's thus not difficult to perceive the gods as directing fate, while allowing great room for the human journey along the way. Violence and intrigue, romance and individual hope in conflict with larger forces, can make 'paradise' an even richer locale.

This story emerges from my classical background and my experience as a diver on the American Porto Keli project in the late 60s. Much is also owed to the late (Senator) Philippe Gigantes* for insight on the Greek royal family and relevant political factions from 1944-1967.

* Philippe was Minister of Culture in Greece, and Secretary General to King Constantine at the time of the Colonels' 1967 Athens coup, and author of more than (15) books, including Power & Greed: A Short History of the World (Constable).
